A new academic year brings with it new challenges to overcome and new ideas to incorporate. It also brings with it the excitement of meeting old friends and making new ones, meeting new teachers and students and creating new bonds. I was thrilled to be back in the classroom after a long break and nervous to meet the newbies. Happy and eager new faces looked up to me while I read out their names to take them to my class. We began with introducing ourselves to each other and so began the first week of school with lots of activities and recaps of the essential elements of the PYP and so far, it's all been great.
The week that was, through snap shots!
Getting to know each other through a BINGO game.
This was followed by a paper plane activity in which the students wrote down two truths and one lie about themselves without writing their names on them. They had to fly the paper planes around for a minute and then pick a plane which wasn't their own. They had to then introduce the paper plane's owner by reading out the facts and the rest of the class tried to guess who it belonged to. Then they had to also guess which of the three facts was a lie.
ESSENTIAL AGREEMENTS
The words essential agreements were discussed and understood by everyone to enable them to understand the significance of creating them. Students then worked in groups to come up with essential agreements for the year.

The students revisited the attributes of the IB Learner Profile and articulated them in groups. Then ithey matched the attributes to the attitudes and explained the matches they made. The discussion was fruitful and the students came to the conclusion that all the attributes and attitudes were inter- related.

The year's birthday parties began with the celebration of Mantej and his twin Sutej's birthday on Wednesday. The students relished the yummy cake.
UNIT OF INQUIRY
The students embarked on their Unit of Inquiry journey by working in groups on the TD theme 'WHO WE ARE'. The meaning of Transdisciplinary Themes was discussed and then the strands of the theme were given to the groups separately and they had to express their understanding of the same.
JANMASHTAMI
The birthday of Lord Krishna was celebrated and the significance of the same was shared with the students through a PPT created and presented by Ms. Alka Balain.
