BEFORE WE LEAVE FOR HOME

Everyday, I would try to end the school day with a quick recap of the day gone by through an exit game wherein I would ask the students to line up and ask each one of them a question based on the various concepts being worked upon in the class. The students have to answer the question correctly in order to get their exit pass. If he or she is unable to do so, he/she goes right at the end of the line and has a go at another question once his/her turn comes again. It helped me gauge if the students have been able to grasp the concepts and also the level of their understanding and I would rework on the concepts next day, if the need be.

It was getting difficult for me to do so lately as a lot of students are involved in various practice sessions during the prep time for various events coming up. So I came up with another idea. I have a 'WHAT STUCK WITH YOU TODAY?' board.

I have stuck it to the door. As the students leave the room for the last time during the day, either to go home or for a practice session before school ends, they take a sticky note and write anything that they enjoyed during the day or something they found difficult during the day with their name and the date and stick it on the chart. Once the kids leave,I remove the sticky notes and read them. I just started this a couple of days back and it seems to be going well.
I will upload a few sample sticky notes written by the students soon.

  BLOOMING CLOCKS

Grade 4 is busy working with time and they have recently mastered conversion of 12 hour clock times to 24 hour clock times and vice versa. To demonstrate their understanding of this conversion, the classroom clock was converted into a beautiful flower.
                   Have a look!

ADJECTIVES

ADJECTIVES
The students had fun describing nouns using adjectives this morning. Each child had to pick a noun from a bowl and describe it to the rest of the class using only a few words. They had good fun guessing the word and at the end of the activity everyone knew what adjectives are.

The students were introduced to the 24 hour clock times today. I wrote the time table using 24 hrs. clock time on the board for prior knowledge. This aroused the curiosity in the students and they began asking why I had written the time in a different way. Some knew the reason and quickly piped in what they knew about 24 hour clock times. The discussion began and we made a concept map on the various places one sees 24 hour clock times these days.

This was followed by a Chatterbox activity wherein the students made chatter boxes using 12 hr and 24 hr clock times. They quizzed each other using the game. They will continue playing this throughout the unit and also for drill work every morning.

HALLOWEEN!

The school was overflowing with enthusiasm and excitement as hundreds of witches, wizards, vampires, Dracula, Harry Potter characters, ghosts and ghouls poured into the school. The celebration of Halloween started with a special assembly in which the students were made aware of the history and customs of Halloween. This was followed by a Halloween parade in which the whole of Primary School gathered in the Amphitheatre and class wise took a round of the stage for everyone to see their costumes. Thereafter the students went to the Senior School- Takshila- where they saw the fantastic decorations done by the senior students. Here are a few photographs from today!
