Fantastic Formative

As a part of their forrmative assessment task, the students presented a street play in Hindi on the different kinds of diseases and their prevention. The street play done by the Ab Initio students was done entirely by the students with no help whatsoever from their teachers. The Standard Group video is too large to be uploaded. I will compress it and upload it asap. Meanwhile, enjoy the Ab Initio Street Play.

Drama to focus

 Ms. Malini Ghosh  came to our class on Wednesday to interact with the students and did an activity with the students which made them understand the importance of being focused. The students were made to stand in a circle and a simple number sequence of 1-2-3 was repeated till everyone got a chance. Then the sequence was made a little difficult by replacing digits with actions such as clapping, snapping of fingers and making a funny face. The rule was simple, if any one forgot what they were supposed to say or do, the sequence would start all over again. The students enjoyed the activity and came to the realization that focus is very important to do things in the right manner and at the right time. Thank you , Ms. Malini. We sure had fun!

The Grand Summative Task

The students have been working diligently for their Summative Assessment Task in which they had to put up panels or boards for a Health Fest. The kids have done a fabulous job of it and the displays are set up and ready for showing off to the entire Primary School come Monday morning. Here are a few glimpses of the Health Fest. Literacy Week Extravaganza- V

DAY 5

The students came to school dressed in costumes to represent their favourite characters from the stories they had read. They also had the opportunity to meet Mr. Rajesh Nagulakonda and Mr. Sourav Dutta, renowned illustrator and editor from Campfire publications. They have worked on graphic novels like Oliver Twist, Merchant of Venice, Jungle Book, Krishna, etc.  Mr. Nagulakonda demonstrated his style of illustration and the entire process. He even gave a live demonstration of his talent by creating a beautiful sketch of Krishna in less than two minutes. It was amazing to see him work. 

The students had an opportunity of having a skype session with Ms. Arpita Saxena from Berne who read a folk tale from Switzerland to them. It was called 'Florina and the Wild Bird' by Selina Chonz. It was an intereting interaction for the kids and I am glad this could take place. They also met with my best friend, Ms. Zeno Yanthan, who came to share stories from her home town Nagaland. The students were happy to learn about the tribes of Nagaland and also the head hunting custom which was practised in the olden days.

It was an eventful week with a lot of fun activities and I am sure the students learned loads from them.

Tuning in- Role play by teachers

Who says only kids have all the fun and teachers don't? As a tuning in to the third line of inquiry of their current unit- Ways in which we can keep ourselves healthy and disease free, the teachers put up a role play for the students. Through the role play they depicted two families- one following all the five factors of health and the other family being an extremely unhealthy one. We teachers had a lot of fun preparing for the role play and presenting it in front of the students. We added a lot of humour in our role play and the students had a hearty laugh during the performance. They applauded us loudly at the end and we were quite pleased with ourselves. The session ended with a discussion on the different ways in which we can keep ourselves healthy and disease free.

DAY 3

Today the students had great fun making bookmarks and book covers based on the stories. Creativity was at its best with the students making their work attractive by using colours, cut outs, prop outs and writing couplets. I was so excited watching them that I couldn’t resist making one myself. The photographs will follow shortly.
